Build your first dashboard
You’ll chart one canister’s cycles balance and save it to a dashboard your team can open. You need an Agent with Monitor running for at least a few minutes, and the Read-write or Admin role to save.
-
Open Explore. Go to Telemetry and choose Metrics.
-
Find the metric. In the metric list, search for
balanceand choose the canister cycles balance. It is labelled Read by Monitor. -
Narrow it to one canister. Add a filter such as
canister = payments-api, then Run. -
Check the chart. Pick a range that covers your Monitor history, such as the last 6 hours. Gaps mean no reading was taken then, not zero.
-
Save it. From the query’s ⋯ menu, choose Save to dashboard. Pick a dashboard or create a new one, give the panel a title, and confirm.
-
Open it. Go to Telemetry › Dashboards and open your dashboard. Everyone in the Agent can see it.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- A dashboard saves the question, not the numbers: it always shows current data.
- Prefer PromQL? Switch the query to PromQL and type it. PromQL guide.
- The built-in dashboards, such as Fleet Command and Economics, cover most fleet questions already.
