Canister logs
Open a canister’s Timeline and choose Logs to read what it wrote.
Two ways to read logs

A canister’s own log buffer is small and rotates quickly. An Agent keeps the lines after the buffer has moved on, so you can look back at last week.
Filter
Section titled “Filter”Choose a level (info and up, warnings and up, errors and up, or traps) and type text to filter messages. Search ignores letter case unless you choose Match case.
Who can read logs
Section titled “Who can read logs”The canister’s log visibility setting decides. It can allow controllers only, everyone, or a list of viewers.
- For an Agent to collect logs, the canister must allow the Agent, and log collection must be on in Monitor.
- To read live in this browser, sign in. The canister must allow you.
Change it in Settings and access.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Each line’s level comes from its text, such as
ERRORor[TRAP]. - If the buffer rotated before the Agent read it, the gap is shown, never hidden.
