Placement
A canister’s Placement section shows the subnet it runs on: its load, the canisters on it, its replica version, its nodes and their countries, and any open proposals that target it.
Use it during an incident to tell an app problem from a subnet problem. A busy or unhealthy subnet is a lead, not proof.
Choose a subnet when creating
Section titled “Choose a subnet when creating”When you create a canister or an Agent, you choose where it runs:
- Automatic: the network picks a subnet. The best choice for most.
- Choose a subnet: pick from the subnets you’re allowed to deploy to.
- Enter subnet ID: type a specific subnet. icLens checks you may use it.
Paying with ICP and paying with cycles can allow different subnets, so icLens checks again when you change how you pay.
Move to another subnet
Section titled “Move to another subnet”To move an existing canister, use Move to another subnet in this section. How moving works.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Placement figures are public and need no access to the canister.
- For CLI provisioning, see the Internet Computer’s subnet guide.
