Automatic top-ups

Your Agent can top up canisters when they run low, so you don’t have to watch their balances. It pays from the Reserve, a pool of cycles that belongs to the Agent, separate from your wallet and from the Agent’s own cycles.

You need to be an Admin of the Agent workspace.

  1. Fund the Reserve. Open Cycles, choose Fund the Reserve, enter an amount of ICP and approve it in OISY.

  2. Set the limits. In Cycles › Limits, set the Reserve floor, the Daily top-up limit, and turn Automatic top-ups on.

  3. Protect canisters. In Cycles › Automatic top-ups, choose Add automatic top-up for one canister, or select canisters under Not covered and choose Protect. Set Top up when below and Add each time.

  4. Give it a budget. Set the Budget and when it ends, at most 30 days ahead. The suggested budget covers ten top-ups. Choose Save as You.

Setting up sends nothing. The Agent checks the balance on a schedule and tops up when it falls below your threshold.

  • Cycles › Reserve: the balance, what’s set aside for top-ups in flight, and every movement.
  • Cycles › Automatic top-ups: how many canisters are covered, each rule and its budget, and the budgets to renew. Renew gives a rule a new budget.
  • Cycles › History: each top-up, automatic or by you.
  • Canisters: a shield beside each runway says whether the canister is covered. Filter by Automatic top-up to find the ones that aren’t.
  • Home and Inbox: a budget that ends this week, and low canisters without an automatic top-up.

If the Agent can’t prove where some cycles went, for example a top-up whose reply was lost, it holds the Reserve and stops all automatic top-ups. Cycles shows a Reserve incident.

  1. Look up the uncertain movement on the ledger.

  2. An owner opens the incident and chooses Review and release, recording what they found.

Releasing sends nothing. The waiting top-ups run on the next check.

  • Top-ups only happen within every limit: the floor, the daily limit, the budget and its end date. Hitting any of them pauses top-ups, never your app.
  • Editing the threshold or amount ends the authorization. Authorize again to resume.
  • Changing a member’s role revokes every spending authorization. An Admin authorizes again.
