Explore metrics

Open Telemetry › Metrics to chart any metric your Agent keeps, compare it with the period before, and save what you find.

Pick a metric. The metric browser lists every metric, with its type and description. Metrics your code sends come first; the ones Monitor collects say Read by Monitor.
Narrow it. In the Builder, filter by a label, such as one canister, and split the chart by another.
Run it. Choose Run, or press ⌘/Ctrl + Enter.

Read the chart

Each query gets its own chart, with its latest value and its peak.
Compare with the previous period draws the same query over the window before, so you can see what changed.
If an alert rule watches this metric, its threshold is drawn on the chart, and times it fired are shaded.
Dots on a histogram are exemplars: real requests the Agent kept. Select one to open its trace.

Drag across a chart and choose Draft alert to start an alert rule for that query. Nothing is created until you review it.

Keep what you found

The address holds your queries, so a link reopens the same view.
A query’s ⋯ menu has Save to dashboard, Copy as PromQL and Query history. Use Add query to chart up to four side by side.

Good to know

Counters are shown as a rate per second, and histograms as a percentile such as p95.
Saving a dashboard panel saves the query, not its results. You need Read-write or Admin.
Query history stays in this browser.
